Discipline

Discipline is always a big parental concern. It’s a big concern of teachers, too. Therefore, it seems quite logical that parents and teachers should work together in disciplining their child/student.

Keeping in touch with your child’s teacher’s is perhaps the best way of eliminating discipline problems.

 Pupil Records

School Board policies and administrative procedures conform with state and federal government regulations on pupil records.

Results of the District’s standardized testing programs and the scores received from academic aptitude tests voluntarily taken by students are maintained in a pupil’s record file in the building the student is currently attending. The record also contains grades received, academic work completed and attendance information.  (Dates of all standardized tests are included in the calendar section of this year’s Calendar/Parent Handbook.)

Confidential records for exceptional students are maintained in the District Special Education Office according to the provisions set forth in PA Code 22 Chapter 341.  These include psychological and psychiatric evaluations, educational assessments completed through the Special Education Office and individualized education program data.

If a child transfers to another school system, the confidential, academic and health records will be forwarded to the new school upon receipt of a written records release form signed by the parents/guardians.

No individual or agency outside those listed in School Board Policy #4500 (copies may be reviewed in the District Office or any school library) shall be permitted to inspect a student’s school record without a parent’s written permission. 

Certain “directory information” including: student’s name, address, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, last grade completed and awards received may be released without parental permission.  Parents do, however, have the right to refuse to permit release of any or all categories of directory information if they advise their building principal in writing by September 30 of each school year.

Parents may inspect their child’s academic records by submitting a written request to their child’s building principal. Review of the confidential file for exceptional students may be arranged by contacting the Director of Special Education.  According to Board Policy, an appointment must be made within thirty days.

Parents who wish to amend some information in their child’s files may request the amendment to the building principal or the Director of Special Education who will respond within thirty days.  If an amendment request is refused, parents have the right to a hearing conducted by the Superintendent.  If the amendment is refused at the hearing, a parent has the right to place in his child’s file a statement commenting on the disputed information.
